What's in my garden?!

I wish I knew all the names of the plants and flowers in the yard.  We are seeing things now that were not in bloom when we first moved in to the house.   We lived in an apartment building on the 4th floor in Russia and have not had a yard since we left California six years ago.  It's all so beautiful!

I am hoping to make some contributions to the landscape here... but need to decide what to do.  I would love a vegetable garden.  Any suggestions for a beginner?!

  1. What lovely flowers!! And I bet most of them smell wonderful, too.

For your garden, I really love square foot gardening. You can google it and get lots of free ideas.

  2. beautiful flowers! I get so much shade, which is nice when it is hot, but terrible for growing bright, colorful flowers.

Tomato and beans are pretty easy for a beginner. (watch your tomato plants for bugs -- marigolds planted nearby can help.) You can even do them in a big planter. Also strawberry plants or various herbs in their special planters is pretty easy too.

  4. Your flowers are gorgeous. The first 2 pics look like they are in the lily family, and one looks like a bird of paradise maybe. I plant vegies and herbs in pots and stainless steel buckets that I spray paint. I have good luck with most herbs, tomatoes, hot peppers, bell peppers and cucumbers. Using pots seems to cut down on bugs and of course no weeds! You can also move them around if they are not getting enough sun. Have fun!

  6. A garden of love blooming in your garden! God gave us such beauty to enchance our soul's journey upon this earth. In the book, Hinds Feet on High Places, there is a flower called, Acceptance With Much Joy, and she blooms out beautifully, her fragrance is so sweet but yet she is in the dessert and none to relish her gift...but her love is to the creator and cares not that no one will smell her aroma of sweetness or see her beauty that she is so graced with ....just as long as the Father, her creator finds pleasure in her. I too moved into my new home last year and the flowers, Roses, Crepe Mytrles, Rose of Sharon, all these awesome lilies, was not blooming but they have been absolutely gorgeous....Thank you Father...I rejoice with you as you smell the aroma of your flowers and watch their beauty unfold before you.

I grow tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers (spicy like jalapeno type) in my garden they are pretty easy to grow.

  8. What gorgeous flowers!! The easiest things to start with gardening wise are tomatoes and cucumbers. You can grow them in planters and not even worry about a full blown garden patch. If you do well, you can always expand next year. Good luck!!
