On Russian time!

I sent a text message to Lena asking her and Alexei to pray for Tom.

I got an answer back at 3:30 in the morning.

What a wake up call! Perhaps I need to start turning the ringer off on my phone when I go to bed.

What kind of phone and plan do you have that you can text with Russia from the US? We are planning on being in Kras at the end of July and are trying to figure out the phone thing. Did you buy some tri-band phone here in the States before you left? Any direction would be appreciated!

  2. I do have a triband phone. We bought our phones in Russia. The phone is one that is "unlocked" so I can put in a SIM card from whatever country we are in and it works. To text internationally I just put a + sign at the beginning of the number then the country code and lastly the phone number.

In Russia we don't have a monthly payment set up like they do here. We buy cards that have a certain amount of money on them. Like the prepaid phone system here in the US.

I think it would be cheaper for you to buy a phone in Russia.

The SIM card I am using right now is Cingular (which works here in the US in states that allow unlocked phones a signal, Kansas didn't).

In Russia you have to purchase a SIM card from a Russian provider. You will need a nationals help with this because your SIM card has to be registered in a Russians name.
